Taking it one day at a time

Not a lot to report here at the Holcomb Hideaway, just working and trying to keep on top of stuff.

Brian's job is keeping him very busy, which we knew from the beginning. It's a little tough at times and very stressful and we just have to remind ourselves we prayed about this and it is what was meant to be. We know it'll get better, especailly as he learns it more and feels comfortable and confident with his skills.

On Friday we watched my little sisters, Abby and Cassidy and had a good time. I took them for a mile bike ride to try and wear them out a bit :) Then we came back and had big soft pretzels for a snack with chocolate milk. We watch Lilo and Stitch, which I hadn't seen before and thought it was cute. Then we played house with our dolls, we took them to church and had Christmas morning. It was fun and I think they enjoyed themselves. When my Dad and Anna came to pick them up Abby was zonked out snoring and Cassidy was laying next to me. So precious.

Saturday Brian worked in the morning since it was Harry Potter day while I did some laundry and then went shopping. Old Navy was having a clearance sale and I got 2 shirts and a cute toy for MJ. We went and saw my sister and the kids for awhile and then grabbed some dinner.

That night Travis and Sara came over and so did our neighbors! It's always fun when you have nice neighbors. They moved in about a month ago and we introduced ourselves a week or so ago. Yesterday Brian saw Chris (the husband) weeding their yard by hand so he let him use our Weed Hound which we love. That night he gave it back and said they were getting one because that was the coolest thing ever! His wife, Brandy, said she has never seen him so excited about something :) So they came over and we had a great time. They moved here from Texas because he got a job at HP as an engineer. Anyway, they are very sweet and we were excited they came over.

Today Jaime and my mom and I got together to do some planning for Jenny's bridal shower on August 25th. It's at our house which I am excited about. When I got home we BBQ'd some tri-tip steak, yum and watched some Friends.

Now the weekend is coming to an end and it's back to work. Have a great week!

Tuesday

Well it is Tuesday and this week is going very well at work. I am feeling a tiny less overwhelmed and my days are going by a little faster because I have actual work, which is good!
Brian's job is going pretty good, he's very busy but today was a good day, just pray for more of those!

Our anniversary weekend went very well. We enjoyed dinner and dessert on Saturday and then came home and watched, "You, Me, & Dupree" which was good. I really like Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson is funny, or is it Luke? Anyway, good movie, I thought.
Sunday we spent all day in our downstairs bathroom. Not from the previous nights dinner, he he. We painted and put wainscoting up (spelling?). It's a small bathroom but we are first time remodelers so it took all day. It's still not completely done as we need to put the chair rail on top of the wainscoting, hence there are no pictures. But as soon as we finish it I'll put up the before and after :)

It rained today, which was a great break from the 99 degree days. But one day is enough, I would like a little sun back!

I wanted to say thank you for all the sweet comments about our anniversary and wedding pictures :) It was truly a magical day and I love looking at pictures and thinking about that day, so wonderful.
When we were engaged some people would comment on how young I was to get married, I didn't think 23 was THAT young, but to each their own. It wasn't so much that they commented on my young age that bothered me, it was their negative tone towards marriage in general that really irked me. Anyway, it is always good to hear people who have been married 5, 10, 15, 60 years talk about how in love they still are and how marriage, although it has it's challenges, is a wonderful thing. So, here's to forever!

Alrighty, dinner is almost ready and we have to go grocery shopping tonight, ugh, so I better get off the computer :) Have a great day!

1 Year Anniversary

To my husband of 1 year,

Well, it has been one year since we stood in front of our family and friends and said I do. This has been the best year of my life, truly. I feel so blessed to have found the love of my life in my best friend. Your unconditional love surrounds me and I still have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. You are perfect for me in every way and my love for you grows with each breath that I take.
I look forward to starting a family with you, supporting each other in our careers, and growing old together. You are the only one for me and I love you so much.

Love,
Your devoted wife

Brian's mom celebrates her birthday today and we want to wish her a Happy Birthday, we love you!

HOT, HOT, HOT

It has been soooo HOT here! I know Arizonians are thinking I'm a wimp because 100 degrees is not that bad for Arizona during the summer, but us Oregonians aren't use to it. Plus, when you don't have AC it makes it almost unbearable.

Last night I got home from work and the first thing I did was get in my bathing suit and run through the sprinklers, it was 81 degrees inside our house, poor MJ! The sprinklers helped cool me down which was a nice relief from the heat. We are planning on having AC installed before next summer, it is just too hot in our house! When we went to bed it was 84 in our house, how did it get hotter?!?! Even though we sleep with our bedroom window open and a fan in front of it, outside doesn't get very cool out. Now, I am someone who has to have covers, regardless of the temperature, I like to snuggle. But, it was so hot last night that I went to bed in my birthday suit (too much information I know!) and no covers, not even the sheets!!! I woke up around 2 am and couldn't believe I didn't have any covers, I put the sheets on half my body but it was still too hot to cover up. I think it's suppose to get a little cooler which will be great, especially at night!

So we decided this weekend, for our 1st anniversary, we are going to stay home and spend the whole weekend just us 2 (and MJ of course!). We are going to do much needed yardwork and paint our guest bedroom (sage green I think). It may sound dull but I am really looking forward to it :) We are also going to go out to dinner to a place downtown called Sybaris. We have gone there one other time and really enjoyed ourselves. They have delicious food and a wonderful atomsphere. Afterwards we'll go to a cute cafe, Sidekicks, for a tasty treat, Brian likes the chocolate cake and I like a decaf mocha (and a bite of his chocolate cake, or 2!). Just looking forward to it :)

So I finished the 2nd of 3 series by Karen Kingsbury. I absolutely love these books and I don't know what I'm going to do when I finish the 3rd series, I feel like the Baxter's are real people!!!

Okay, I'm kind of boring today so I think I better end this post before it's both Long and Boring! Have a great Wednesday, the week is half over!

Catching Up

First, the weekend.
We had a great weekend, seriously! Friday we went to bed nice and early since we were getting up at 7 to get ready for the wedding, which was at noon. It was a little cloudy in the morning, perfect for taking pictures! Then the clouds parted and the sun shined for the bride and groom. It was a short ceremony, just as they wanted and then the reception began. Our camera was acting up so I only snapped a few pictures, but the place was gorgeous. It had a beautiful lake with bridges you could walk over and swans swimming about.
Afterwards we went to dinner with Nate and Amy and then met back up with the bride and groom and some friends in the bar of the hotel. We had a great time drinking and talking.

Sunday we came back and decided instead of doing housework, we were going to float the river with our friends! So, we did :) We were so glad we did because the weather was perfect and the river was a great temperature (usually it's ice cold!).

Today.
My first day went very well. It was pretty standard as far as first days go with filling out paperwork and meeting everyone, I didn't actually get to learn anything new, that will start tomorrow.
But I went out to lunch with my boss and I really like her, she's so cool and we spent a majority of lunch talking about everything else but work! She is so supportive of whatever I want to do with my career, even if it's not in accounting. The whole department seemed really nice too, one of the ladies there who has worked for the state for 28 years, came over at 10 am when I was reading the policy manual and asked if I liked coffee, I of course said yes! She said she would like to buy me one so we got some coffee and sat outside for a little break. It was very sweet and made me so glad to be there!
I feel so blessed and feel this is where I am suppose to be. I am so thankful.

It was a successful first day and I hope it continues that way!

Pictures...

I don't have too much time to update because I want to get some sleep before my first day at my new job :)
There are a couple pictures from Jessica's 30th at El Prez and then some from Marcus and Gretchen's wedding that was yesterday, 07-07-07!

Enjoying some Coronas!

Brian and I in downtown Corvallis the night before the 4th of July for the Red, White, and Blues Festival.

It was a beautiful wedding and Gretchen looked gorgeous.

We had a great weekend, spent most of it in Portland for the wedding, but managed to go rafting on the river today with Tiff, Eric, Shane, Cheurisya, and Ben (Shane's friend). The weather was perfect and we had a blast!
I'm gonna go get some rest, thanks for all the well wishes for my first of work, I will report on how it went!!

LAST DAY!!!

Well, my last day at Allied has arrived, yessssss. I am counting down the hours for sure :) Although I am pretty nervous for Monday as I don't know what to expect and stressed about parking since it's downtown Salem. But excited for the new adventure to come.

I've done pretty good all week as far as getting up early and going for a run. I got up Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and today. This morning was nearly impossible but somehow I made myself get up. I'm enjoying pilates, this chick is pretty cool and I like how she teaches. I use to do Winsor Pilates but that lady kind of bothered me.

So it has been in the 90's here lately. I LOVE the sun and normally being that hot would not be so bad, but we don't have AC. However, we have what they call an all house ceiling fan and it is very powerful, when it gets a little cooler at night we turn that on and open the windows and it works great! Well, it broke. Brian hasn't been able to figure out what is wrong with it, even after he climbed in the 1000 degree attic! He replaced the switch, but to no avail. So my Dad said he would come over and help us figure it out, I hope we can get it working, it has been miserable at our house, so HOT!!!
On Wednesday it was so hot that I ran through the sprinklers just to cool off, it worked, plus it was kind of fun, MJ thought I was crazy. :)
Love Blogging
So I just have to say this whole blogging thing is awesome. I admit I am a "blog stalker" and I've met some really nice people because of it and reconnected with others! I also admit (apparently this turned into a confessional!) that I don't always comment on other peoples blogs that I check regularly so I've been trying to be better about that because I really like it when people comment on mine, just so I know people actually read it!

We are not sure what we are going to do to celebrate this wonderful occasion, we were going to go to Seattle for the weekend, but things are a little busy so I'm not sure we'll make it. But we'll think of something!

Day 2

Well, I struggled but I woke up this morning at 5AM and went for a run. I was soooo close to snoozing but than I thought about Hawaii and operation hard body. Plus I couldn't live with myself if I only last 1 day, I at least had to last 2, LOL :)

I am excited for a day off tomorrow and also for fireworks tonight! Speaking of fireworks, boy did we have an interesting night last night. So I guess it was around 11 pm and I had been asleep for about an hour, Brian said he had just dozed off. There were some fireworks off in the distance, and as I stated yesterday, MJ is scared of fireworks. Apparently she was doing her sort of quiet little growl, but one scared her enough she gave a little bark. Now, I don't know exactly what woke me up, but all I remember is Brian holding me and trying to call me down because I was screaming absolute bloody murder! I really don't know what in the heck woke me up because I don't remember hearing the fireworks or MJ bark, maybe I was having a bad dream? Who knows. The point is I was screaming at the top of my lungs and was completely terrified, of what I don't know. Brian was cradling me and after I came too I was shaking so bad and I couldn't feel my legs and I was almost in tears. This leads to another story...

When I was younger I had what they call night terrors. I would get up in the middle of the night and walk around, completely asleep mind you, I do not have any recollection of these. My Mom said she was so worried that I was going to unlock the front door and walk outside, which she heard could happen. The scary thing is my mom said she could not wake me up no matter how hard she tried and no matter what she did. I would usually come into my parents room and stand there (how scary would that be!), sometimes I would scream and cry although I was still asleep. She said the only thing that helped was when she took me to the bathroom, I would go and then she would put me back in bed and I was fine. Crazy, huh?! Apparently Brian should have taken me to the bathroom, lol!

Alrighty, I'm gonna get back to work.
Happy 4th of July!

Operation: Hard Body

So I am getting serious about shaping my body up and exercising. With my new job I won't be running on lunch, which means before or after work. After work is a lost cause, I get home and the first thing we do is eat dinner. After dinner I don't want to run right away as my stomach is full, so I say I'll wait an hour. An hour goes by and I'm tired and the thought of running is not appealing. So, I decided I need to buck up and run before I go to work. So it's 5 AM wake up for me during the week!!!
Saturday I woke up at 9 AM and went running for 2 1/2 miles with MJ, then did pilates for 20 minutes when I got home. I was feeling great! Sunday I decided to just do the 20 minute pilates but it still felt really good. I woke up this morning at 5 AM and went running with MJ. I am so hoping I can keep this up, it is of course easier when you have someone to run with so you have that obligation that you HAVE to get up, but hopefully I can stay strong and motivated on my own! I plan on doing some pilates tonight when I get home :)

We had a great weekend running some errands, watching my nieces and nephew, spending time with friends and family. I used my gift card at Maurices on Saturday and had a blast! I also used some of my Starbucks gift card, yum :)
We've been having a problem with our camera shutting off right after we turn it on, we kept thinking our batteries were bad, but we put brand new batteries in and it is still doing it. Sometimes it will stay on, thus the reason I have been able to capture some moments. But on Sunday I was trying to take a picture of the kids and it would NOT stay on. I am not a happy camper as I LOVE pictures. So I think we're gonna have to take it to Costco and figure something out. It is only a year and a half old, it has never been dropped or through any sort of tragedy so I have absolutely no idea why it is acting up. We definitely have to figure it out before Hawaii because I am not going to Hawaii camera-less, that is for sure!

I am at work right now, anxious for month end to start swamping my desk, but trying not to stress too much. This is my last Monday at Allied, yay!! This week will not go fast enough, I can already tell. I am grateful for the 4th as we'll have a break right in the middle of the week.

Speaking of the 4th, it is suppose to be in the 90's this week! It will be nice to enjoy the 4th with lots of sunshine, but hopefully our house doesn't get too hot! I think we are going to the Riverfront festival in Corvallis on Tuesday the 3rd to watch the fireworks, then on the 4th we are going to Brian's Dad's house to BBQ. I think we'll head back to Corvallis Wednesday night to enjoy more fireworks! MJ doesn't like the noise and she ends up barking everytime she hears fireworks go off because it scares her, it will be fun trying to quiet her down!

This weekend we our going to our friends', Marcus and Gretchen's wedding! They are getting married on 07-07-07 :) Brian is the officiant and I know he is excited for it. That might seem random that Brian can officiate weddings, he was ordained by his high school teacher and then completed the paperwork. The first couple he married was Tiff and Eric 6 years ago and from what I hear there was not a dry eye in the house. He has a way with words that is incredibly touching. Since then he has married a co-worker at a very casual wedding, so casual it was done at a restaurant, Michael's Landing for my local readers. Then he married Tracie and Cassidy (Cassidy is Shane Beaver's brother) in Klamath Falls. He is also marrying my sister and Kyle in Hawaii! He says he is the most nervous about that one because it's in front of all the in laws! But he is so excited and honored, plus I know he will be awesome! I think it is so special that he will be the one joining them in their life together.

Alrighty, I guess I should mentally prepare for month end and maybe get some work done ;-) Have a wonderful week everyone!
